Varier Gravity™

Discover the Varier Gravity Recliner – The Zero-Gravity Chair for Ultimate Comfort

The Varier Gravity Balans offers more than just a place to sit — it delivers a floating experience that combines comfort, relaxation, and ergonomic innovation. Renowned Norwegian designer Peter Opsvik created the Gravity chair based on a concept by Hans Chr. Mengshoel. Together, they designed a chair that helps you relax, focus, and restore your body.

Zero-Gravity Comfort

When fully reclined, the Varier Gravity chair elevates your legs above your heart, placing your body in a near-weightless position. As a result, this posture promotes deep relaxation, improves blood flow, and encourages a soothing rocking motion driven by your heartbeat. In essence, it lets you feel like you're floating — all from the comfort of your living room.

Ergonomic Support from Head to Toe

Thanks to its precisely shaped cushions and flexible reclining angles, the Gravity supports your entire body. Whether you're reading, meditating, napping, or listening to music, the chair fully supports your head, neck, back, and legs. This reduces pressure and enhances overall comfort.

Not Just for Rest — Also for Activity

Although the Gravity was designed for relaxation, it also adapts well to active use. For example, you can:

  • Use a slight forward tilt to enjoy a cup of coffee or read a magazine.
  • Sit in an upright position for casual tasks or conversations.
  • Kneel forward for ergonomic support during short work sessions.

Many users rely on the Stokke Gravity for light work thanks to its integrated knee supports, even though it’s not intended as a full-time desk chair.

Frequently Asked Questions about the Stokke Gravity

How does the Gravity work?
You can switch between four positions by shifting your body weight. These include kneeling, upright, slightly reclined, and fully reclined postures. The Gravity’s curved wooden frame supports each of these positions naturally and effortlessly.

Can I use the Varier Gravity as a kneeling chair?
Yes, you can. When you tilt the chair forward, it functions as a kneeling chair. However, this forward-leaning mode stays static, unlike dynamic kneeling chairs such as the Variable or Thatsit, which encourage movement throughout use.

Is it difficult to assemble?
No, assembling the Varier Gravity (Stokke) is quite manageable. Two people can easily put it together, and we recommend being careful when handling the screws and threads. For added convenience, we also offer free professional assembly at the time of delivery.

Wasn’t this chair originally made by Stokke?
Yes, before 2006, Stokke produced the original Gravity chair. After the brand split, Varier Furniture took over their ergonomic furniture line. The current Vairer Gravity model is hence the old Gravity by Stokke.
